Spring is nearly here……and its sparkly!!!

Snow drops have appeared and I can almost go outside without 6 layers of clothes…..and my email and phone are constantly alerting me to all those organised people out there who are planning there spring summer occasion wear….a few autumn occasions too!! Vintage again seems to be a strong trend….when there is so much scope why not? And I feel fresh and ready to face the new season….have been working on a few new things of my own…

After having been asked by one of my lovely brides recently to try and incorporate some pearls she had from an old necklace into a ‘something’ she could wear all day we came up with the idea of a cuff . Perfect for adding that special pop of colour and detail and also, for her, a great way to do her something old and something new! I loved making the gorgeous, sparkly beady concoction and have been making more since…have attached a few pictures to show my creations…..more to follow…when I get a minute to make them!! Every one will be a one off and I will use a mixture of vintage and new jewels……

How about this with a slinky satin dress……..?

I have just managed to complete my 2011 collection and have it photographed. Have used the lovely Siobhan Kilroe and Jess Womersley this time…we had a good giggle at the shoot and the photos show a really lovely relaxed and yet totally chic view of my new offerings! Website update coming soon………

Love at first sight……Dior Couture

As a designer I am constantly looking and absorbing the fabulous and not so fabulous sights around me! I love reading and learning about fashion, artists, stylists, historical figures….anything in fact that might just trigger an idea.

And so I saw the Christian Dior Couture 2011 collection by John Galliano….to quote Rachel Zoe……OMG….OOC!!

Love at first dress………amazing…oh to be one of those girls wearing those dresses if only fleetingly….oh to one of the women who can afford one of those dresses! It bought to mind all those amazing 50′s Hollywood iconic looks…..Grace Kelly in Rear window, wearing skirts with yards and yards of petticoat……June Allison swishing down the stairs in that black and white dream of a frock in The Glenn Miller Story….nipped in waists….high heels….red lips! More, more, more!!!

The milliner in me loved the use of crin in the headdresses….giving a contemporary pop of structure against the back drop of such classic lines. I love crin…its tricky to work with, but the effects it can create are amazing…from swirls and loops to a frenzy of deconstructed fibres…it all works, its all good!

I shall, when I get a moment be looking at some more shows and hoping to spy something just as amazing as Dior….its going to be tricky!!

Below are just a few ideas…we don’t all need to be as brave as Lady Gaga….perhaps an Audrey Hepburn slide is more your thing, or if your budget will stretch to it, a fascinator as worn by Cheryl Cole on X Factor from the divine Jenny Packham Acacia range, or keep your ‘up do’ simple and chic with a feather side comb….take your pick!
